UBCD live CD making

In my last blog, I was discussing the need for live CD, its benefits, etc. I was discussing how to make live CD and listed all the available live CD on Internet world . I gave the first Live CD build.

Today, we are going to prepare UBCD live CD/DVD.

First go and download here you will find things which you can add when making customized live CD/DVD.

Now, download a CD/DVD burning software.

keep a blank CD/DVD handy.

Keep your OS (windows) handy with at least Service Pack 1 (SP1) or Service Pack (SP2). If you have SP2 then it is much better (mainly for stability issue). If you don't have SP2, no problem just "slipstream (PS: will discuss this at next blog)"

PS: If you are unsure what Service Pack do you have on your OS CD. then look at the root of your XP CD for files ending with a .SP1 or .SP2 extension. The "root" of the drive is the default location when you start to explore the CD drive.

1. Run the UBCD4Win EXE file.

Follow all the instructions/prompts that would come up. Do not install to a folder with spaces in its name. There is inbuild HashCheck tool which checks and warns the user; however, people still continue to ignore that warning and end up with errors when they try to build. Please pay attention to any messages that our Installer or HashCheck may produce. Your antivirus software may report the UBCD4win as viruses or Trojans when you extract UBCD4Win. Make sure you run the EXE, do not use any other extraction tool to extract the project files.

2. Insert your XP CD and copy the content of the CD onto your hard disk (this should be easy for you to find and point when you start building)

Do check that the "hidden files and folders" radio button is selected in folder options and the "hide protected operating system files" is unchecked.

3. Okay, now for finale. Launch UBCD4WinBuilder.exe (located in your C:ubcd4win folder)

During its first run it will give you Yadayada boooo (just click Yes button)

then there will popup asking for you to authorize it to search for windows installation (select No; if you do yes then prepare to be glued to screen for it to finish)

There there will good screen Okay you can see written "source" -> just write the address to where you have dumped XP installation CD.

if you want to make customize {PS: choose only if you want to add things given over here or add what you want to add (PS: Don't scorn over me if you mess up anything)

check create ISO image radiobutton and do point where you want to have it saved.

One more thing I strongly suggest you click "Plugins" button to update or customize your build. Because if you disable it would be difficult to update the Live CD you are making and you would certainly need latest stuffs included on your CD.

Version 3.06 driver UBCD4Win driver pack: network devices are included in the latest version, however mass storage drivers have been removed. In their place BTS mass storage drivers are placed. The BTS driver pack includes drivers for many devices, so you should be able to see any SCSI, SATA, etc., hard drive hooked up to your system.
